Rasmussen makes deposit...Voigt given green light takes yellow.

Rabobank's on a roll. Michael Rasmussen has stayed true to his word that he would attack and go after the polka dot climber's jersey. This fashion of venturing out on a day with climbs and plenty of points is similar to Richard Virenque or Laurent Jalabert's style. It allows them to build a cushion of points to later defend. He'll need to watch out for second place finisher Christophe Moreau as there are plenty more points to be had. His ride though was complete, leaving everyone behind and getting Rabobank their second stage win.

Small confession here. I'm on the road headed to France and didn't catch any of the footage. I'm winging it a bit here off of race reports. I was anxious to see the results of the day and was a bit surprised to see the handing off of the yellow jersey from Discovery to CSC.

Upon seeing the name of the protagonist, I was not so surprised. Jens Voigt is an animal. The guy lives for attacking and suffering. He mentioned in an interview that he was asking his director, Bjarne Riis, everyday if he could attack. Today was the day and voila! Discovery was put in a tight spot. Had they continued chasing they would have spent a lot of energy to get Voigt back -- but they still had to ride to keep his move in check and lost the yellow jersey.

Yesterday would have been a better day to let it go. With the rest day tomorrow and then straight into a stage like Courchevel, the team will have to go back to work to get Lance in attacking position and back in the jersey. But hey, hindsight in this case is kind of like riding the Tour from the couch.

It's a shame Dave Zabriskie had to stop, but it's understandable. At least he takes home a nice souvenir. It's a tough thing to train and work so hard for an event like the Tour. You try not to think about that but at any moment the rug can be pulled from under you and it's over.

Rest Day: A well earned break for the riders.

Great insght into the Tour from an insider! I was also sorry to see Zabriskie drop. Discovery are all still in though and that says a lot for their strength as a team.
